The city of Mount Isa has a population of around 23,000 plus people, and is nestled on the banks of the Leichardt River. The history in mining, fossils and indigenous culture makes it a real draw card for tourists to outback Queensland.

Mount Isa is home to the world's largest single producing mine of copper, lead, silver and zinc.  The mine has been the main financial base of industry in the area and has ensured the town's growth over the last 80 years.

You won’t want to miss (Lawn Hill Gorge) Budjamulla National Park, Adels Grove, Gregory River and its neighbour, the world-heritage listed Riversleigh Fossil Fields, both of which are accessed from Mount Isa.

A must see while in Mount Isa is the Outback at Isa complex, incorporating the award winning Riversleigh Fossil Centre, Hard Times Mine, Sir James Foots Building, Outback Park and Visitor Information Centre. Outback at Isa has a large variety of information on our local attractions and surrounding areas.

And don’t forget the State tourism award winning complex – Buchanan Park. This events complex plays host to the largest and richest rodeo in the Southern Hemisphere - The Isa Rodeo! Held the first weekend in August every year.

Other attractions are the School of the Air, the Royal Flying Doctors base, National Trust Tent House, Underground Hospital and Beth Anderson Museum, surface tours of Mount Isa Mines and fishing for barramundi at Lake Moondarra.
